Carnival Cruises Review for April 2024 Best Cruise Lines

As its name suggests, RedFrog Rum Bar has a variety of rum-based drinks to fit a cool Caribbean vibe. On Carnival Ecstasy, the RedFrog Rum Bar was much smaller than the images I saw online for other ships. This was one of my favorite spots last time I cruised; so, on our first sea day, I decided to have this for lunch.

How Do You Access the Internet Once on the Ship?

Compare that to the 65% of cabins on Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas (launched in 2018) that are balcony cabins. That said, Carnival has seen the success that some of its competitors have had with a bigger range of upscale accommodations, and it's eyeing more suites for future vessels. The line's two newest ships, Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, each have 180 suites — more than twice the number found on the vessels Carnival was unveiling a few years ago.

When looking at the fares for each sailing in July (the peak of the cruise season in North America), we found that Carnival’s fares are less expensive on average. If you want to sail the more inexpensive cruise line, however, then you’re better off with Carnival according to our analysis. Food on Carnival Jubilee is good, with some fun surprises that border on great, and the variety is excellent. Entertainment, and a schedule packed with daily activities, is wildly fun and hits on a range that will appeal to almost everyone.

Major Differences Between Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL)

Carnival has been rolling out faster Wi-Fi systems across its fleet in the last couple of years, such that you can now stream video on some ships. Pricing changes over time, but the fastest "premium" service on Carnival vessels was recently priced at $21.25 per day when bought in advance ($25 per day when bought onboard). The quality of the food (and drink) on Carnival ships always surprises us, given the budget pricing of the brand.

In a nod to Carnival’s history, cruisers will find plenty of objects onboard that have come from past ships. These include the original 1934 Rolls Royce Saloon car that sailed aboard Carnival Ecstasy until that ship was taken out of service, which now finds a home next to the entrance to the Golden Jubilee Bar. Carnival Splendor sails the Southern Hemisphere around Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific on cruises that range from two to 10 days. The ship has Carnival’s only quick-service Indian restaurant and boasts a pool with a retractable roof, so you can swim without worrying about the weather. The ship debuted the restaurant Cucina del Capitano, which is now onboard multiple ships in the fleet. I sailed the Carnival Magic years ago, but I vividly remember spending an entire day enjoying the amenities at the Cloud 9 Spa and eating at the Mongolian Wok quick-service restaurant almost every afternoon for lunch.

Keep in mind that if you do go that route, you will have to buy it for all remaining days of the cruise. This only applies to pre-booked excursions, and if you are claiming you found a lower price (and thus asking for reimbursement) it has to be for the same tour. If, for instance, Carnival includes lunch, and you find the same tour cheaper without lunch, that doesn't count. Rather than choosing a specific cabin, you are choosing a low cruise rate without knowing exactly what level of cabin you will get.

Cobranded Cards

Created in partnership with Food Network's Guy Fieri, Guy's Burger Joint offers burgers that beat anything you'll find around the pool on other mass-market ships and even most luxury vessels. This is a notable change for the brand from just a couple of decades ago. There was a time when Carnival operated some of the biggest cruise ships in the world.

While there are lots of ships to choose from, they all look and feel the same. Because all staterooms are designed for double occupancy, it's generally a rule that a person traveling alone must pay both fares. This means they would pay twice as much per person as two people sharing a room. Shorter Australia voyages might include a stop at just one of the above destinations or even no stops at all — a so-called "cruise to nowhere."

Cabins and suites

However, if you are familiar with the cruising industry, you know how polarizing Carnival cruises can be. It seems as though people either love cruising on Carnival or they avoid their ships at all costs. Just look at the comments on one of our recent TikToks and you’ll see how passionate (positive and negative) people are about Carnival. Whether you're searching for an inexpensive vacation, a family-friendly vessel or a ship that will take you on a longer voyage to Europe, there's a Carnival cruise to fit your taste and budget. A great contender for the title of best Carnival ship for singles is Carnival Sunrise.

And admission to Thrill Waterpark on CocoCay has also been higher or lower (including some prices of more than $150!) depending on the individual cruise. Are you a Royal Caribbean fan, but also love to travel the world? The cruise line has trips sailing everywhere from the United States to Asia to Europe. While most trips are from the U.S., there are a number of other options if you are a fan of the cruise line but want to experience somewhere new. Want to have a margarita and dance in conga line around the pool?

One of Carnival’s signature food options is the Carnival Deli, which serves old-time favorite sandwiches. There was a large menu with both hot and cold sandwich options. I tried the Dirty Mojito, which had spiced rum and brown sugar. My sister had the Red Rum’s Treasure, which was the most popular drink at the bar according to the bartenders. The small tacos, served on flour tortillas, reminded me of street tacos.

Most of the ship’s restaurants are located aft on the Carnival Jubilee deck plan, with the ship’s Jubilee Theater forward. Rooms are located on every deck, except for decks 6, 7, 18 and 19. On decks that offer both cabins and public spaces, rooms are located at the front of the ship.

Other popular venues found on some Carnival ships include RedFrog Pub, which serves up Carnival's tasty housemade beers on tap, as well as plenty of other choices. The latter venue was created in partnership with Food Network's Guy Fieri and serves a free lunch on embarkation and sea days, with all items smoked on board. In addition, every ship has at least one — and usually several — extra-charge eateries. The two venues have flat fees of $49 and $24 per person, respectively.

All Carnival cruises offer production shows, pools and hot tubs, games, trivia, bingo, and more. Combine that with short, affordable voyages from Miami, and you can sail to the Bahamas or Caribbean for four or five nights from as little as $104 per night if you're solo. Short sailings also tend to draw a more fun-loving, social crowd.
